Great video of long coal trains.

I would like to model the Susquehanna Coal Co., of Nanticoke, Penna., where my Wife's Maternal Grandfather worked as a coal-miner for, paying homage to  to him and his co-workers.

The Susquehanna Coal Co. building is torn down, which stood on West Main St.

Also,  paying homage to the Pennsylvania RR., which ran through Nanticoke and the D.L.&W. RR. which ran through Plymouth and Kingston, Penna., as well as other RR's., in the area.

Too, bad they tore down the D.L.&W. RR. roundhouse in Kingston.

When the coal mines were operational and KING!

And let's not forget the General Cigar Co., on West Church St., in Nanticoke, where my Wife and her Maternal Grandmother worked.  The General Cigar Co. building is torn down.

Thanks for the replies.  There was a lot of coal run through Nanticoke. I've urban explored the Blue coal breaker, that facility is huge.  And it was just on of many collieries in the area.  The Wanamie (sp?) used little steam lokies until it closed in the late 60's.  So you could make a real interesting layout using O for the main railroads and 0n30 for the mine railroads.  At 0 scale you can put mechanicals in your breakers to actually load coal into your hoppers.  I sure wish Lionel had actually came through with their new Rotary Dumper and loader.  That would be great on a coal layout.  But you could do something with the old style loader and the unloading ramp too.  laz57 please do come visit us some Sunday.  We had a guy come up from York 2 weeks ago, he said it took him about 1.5 hours.  But we are probably only an hour up 81 from Millersburg.  Dave

Great video of the Reading T1 pulling a string of coal hoppers. Also you have a set of Williams Reading Company King Coal passenger cars parked on what looks like a siding, keep the Reading passenger cars parked, as I could never keep my set on the rails.

I have the same Reading T1 by MTH, my question is how do you keep traction tires on the T1?

Just went to mapquest.com and found Frackville PA, it is north of Pottsville on route 61, or in the heart of the former Reading RR area.

Have you seen some of the Reading Lines diesels that were stored north of Hamburg off of route 61? Also some old rolling stock that Conrail didn't get was stored near Tuckerton Road near route 61 in north Reading PA. That was when the Blue Mountain & Reading RR was in service.

Do you know if the Reading & Northern RR still runs in  northern PA? It used to be a regional RR.

Thanks for the reply.  We don't have any problems with the Williams Passenger cars.  We run them quite often.

Come to think about it the T1 is known to throw traction tires, but we pull some heavy loads as you see.  I know we were going to try using some BullFrog snot to either hold the tires on, or replace them.

The Reading equipment stored off 61 at Hamburg is all property of the Reading Company Technical Historical Society.  They have a museum there.  opened on weekends.  None of the equipment is at Tuckerton anymore. It was moved to Hamburg.

The Reading & Northern is a very healthy regional.  If you do a Google search you will find their website.  They run quite a bit a freight from Reading all the way up to the NY boarder.  They also run Railfan tours in the summer and fall with a small steamer and diesel service.

Right now our MTH T1 is down.  It's probably going back to MTH for repair.  There is an issue with the connection between the tender and the loco. We tried all we can do.  Got it to the point where it will turn on, the whistle and sound work, but it won't move.  It just stopped dead one day.

Thanks for your interest. Stop by some weekend if your ever in the area.  We always post our open house days here and other forums.  we are open every other Sunday.   Dave

cruikshank,

In my last post, I am sorry that I did not mention that you have a great video, layout , beautiful equipment and realistic, long coal hoppers.

Also, I want to thank you for the info. regarding the coal facilities and area in and about Nanticoke,

Is the Leesport museum still at Center street by the Schukill River in Leesport, by the old Pennsy tracks, or did they move to Hamburg? Also some engines were stored north of I-78 off of rt. 61 going north on the left side.

Years ago Reading had two tracks through Leesport going up state to the coal mines.

I have to replace a traction tire again on my Reading T-1. Tried rubber cement once but it don't work with MTH traction tires.

I will try to get to Reading PA area within the next two years, but can't say for sure.

I just seen a differant version of the Williams Reading Company King Coal passenger set, this one has operating couplers and three axles that have splines and not plastic wheels in the center position. Both boxes have the Crown Edition on the box, one box is has a lighter shade of blue lettering.
