I don't find the McKeen car ugly at all. To me, it's way cool looking. Love the porthole windows and the knife-edge front. When it first hit the rails it was incredibly futuristic. I'd really like to see a shortened "toy" version suitable for running on O-31 curves.

I really like them, but the price makes it somewhat impractical for my use.

I see that the V & T car survives and has been restored; it will be officially finished in just a few weeks.

Nevada State Railroad Museum

"Survives" might be an overstatement; judging from the 'updates' page, it seems that the carbody was recovered, but its furnishings and, more importantly, the trucks and the drivetrain have been largely recreated by the Museum staff.

The updates page is kind of hard to find, so I'll link it here:  www.nsrm-friends.org/nsrm82.html

It's an interesting read--shows the trials and frustration of trying to restore something, especially something so unusual, as well as a certain "appreciation" (if that's the word) for the McKeen car generally Grumpy

I wonder if there are other McKeen cars out there?

Three of them - well, really one - ran a lonely interurban route in our county almost a hundred years ago. I'd love to get one.

This unit is so ugly it becomes kind of cool looking. MTH had a pre-production model at York, the detail is amazing. There must be a kazillion rivits molded into the tooling. Four roadnames in this catalog, the Pennsy, UP, NS, and Virginia & Truckee. It will come with MTH new PS-3 operating chips, the Virginia & Truckee will find its way onto the S&Y RR.
