If you should need to know the actual radius, to the center rail, of that track, just measure the center rail of one section, as you did the outside rail.  Multiply that length by 1.931852.  This method needs only one section to work; but, even when you have a complete circle as you do, it's easier than trying to get an accurate measurement of that floppy circle.

Army man,

Welcome to the forum, and I encourage you to sample the coffepot as well.  I collect standard gauge as well, but my limited knowledge does not include any experience with this type of track.  The two small holes in the ties sounds like Lionel type of track, but that is all I have.  Possibly some one else here will have more data.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Superelevated Standard Gauge curved track

Greetings and salutations -

I recently purchased one dozen pieces of superelevated 42" Standard Gauge curved track at a local show.  This is enough track to complete a circle.  Each piece measures 16" straight-line across the outside rail (without the pins) and each section has four ties with two small round holes, one between each rail.  The ties have an inclined slope and are not stepped.  The gentleman from whom I purchased the track stated they were from a 1930 Lionel tin plate set and the track is seemingly identical to ordinary Lionel Standard Gauge curves in size and construction.  However, there are no manufacturer trademarks on either the superelevated ties or sides of the rails that confirm Lionel is the manufacturer.  I've been unable to find other examples of this track.  Might anyone be familiar with superelevated Standard Gauge curved track?
