Well I found a motor truck assembly on Flea-bay and got it for $49.95 with the shipping and it worked great and I am back and running.

no but sugest you look into buying a Greenburgs repair manual for 1945 - 1969 they com in handy if you don't have one.

 Thanks I have been out of town. Got a motor on flea-bay for $49.49 with shipping and she is working fine. Sad news I just got a Lionel 41 that ran around the track less than 5 min and now it will not move but the motor is running!!! Is it Me????

 I have been doing the search and am looking for a replacement. This 202 is so morphed at this point that I am thinking of trying to just find a 8020 with a bad shell and making it correct for the shell. Looking at the the prices for 200 ALCOs I think there is some kind of a run on them. They have been out of site compaired to just a month or two ago.

Hi:  'Top Bix" here,  go to e-bay and search for "Lionel motors", "Lionel ALCO parts" or "Lionel ALCO".  You will get a lot of items in various conditions and price ranges to use as a help in making your choice or repair or replace.  Be watchfull for the early model 200 series power trucks, they used the bottom plastic bearing plate as a lower support for the armature shaft.  This plate would work itself loose and the armature would not mesh correctly with the drive gear (worm wheel) on the axle shaft.  Lionel came out with an improved power truck mod with an  armature supported prior to the drive gear (worm wheel) meshing.  If you get a replacement power truck, I would get the newer mod.  From the canted angle of the gear on the left of the picture, it looks like a pinion gear & its shaft worked its way out of the truck frame.  A repair that is difficult to fix for the operator/layman.  Greenburg's Lionel Service Manual Vol I starting at page II-63 is a very good reference.  Good luck.

Watch e-bay too.

All 200 series motors are interchangeable.  They came in several flavors   - one and two axle magnetraction, no magnetraction and single wound and double wound field coils.  The double wound field coils were used with the two position e-unit.  By using only one of windings on a double wound field coil, the motor can be used with a three position e-unit.

I just did something I thought you could not do.

I was running my old 1957 202 when she started crying, crunching and sounding unlike herself. All of a sudden she started to slip one axle and came to a stop motor still running. Maybe I should not of been pulling 6 loaded timber transport cars and a log loaded bulkhead car. I know a bit much but she always did what was asked and more for a one-axle Magne-Traction unit.

Anyhow she is the first engine I ever got. Dad got her for me when I was 5 years old and she has been morphed over the years. She has the original 202 frame and motor with 8020 shell and 211 front truck with an 8021 B unit. So I want to fix her if I can.

See the attached pictures of drive gears and load.

Where can I get the part number of the rear truck and gear assembly? Or better yet a two-axle Magne-Traction unit for her.

All advice welcome.
