I set up a Marx 405 block signal on my train lay-out today (I'm expanding my Christmas lay-out now). I used the instructions from a Marx website. Since the engines have a reversing unit, the trains reverse when I use the signal to stop the train. Yes, I realize these are toy trains but is this the way it is supposed to work? Rather clumsy but I've tried to keep everything Marx. Thanks.
I certainly hope someone has an answer better than making your loco only run forward. However based on the Marx reversing unit that is what happens, that is if your layout remains Marx only equipment and accssories. Albeit there may be a Marx accessory I am unaware of.
You can use the wiring system AF used in the Mystic Talking Station and wire to leave a slight current to prevent the reversing switch to activate.
There must be a better solution and I look forward to reading it.
I know of no work around other than bypassing the e-unit. One trick I used in an earlier version of my layout as an experiment was to have Interurban style passing tracks or sidings that were stub ended. The block would allow the loco to "go in the hole" and be stopped for a opposing train. When the other passed, the loco would back itself out onto the main. It took two stub sidings of course. The problem I had is that I like long consists and so the light 6 inch would derail if over a few cars in tow when backing out. I could have used a more generous turnout but I wanted to keep the whole layout Marx and 027.
Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.
I found an old Marx block signal that has 5 solder terminals. It has a rheostat built in and what appears to be a buzzer inside. Can anyone give me information as to the proper wiring? Does the buzzer need a special track connection or wiring?
