It's never too late to see a layout. Looks real nice! I like it!
I enjoyed the photo's of the Christmas layout. I have moved into a nice apartment and in the 2nd bedroom have started a 3'X6' layout with several loops and sidings. Marx is enjoyable and less costly if something needs replaced.
I built the small portable Marx layout. Salvaged a 3'x5' piece of hollow-core door with O31 Ives/Hafner banked track. Yes, I did loose an engine "over the side", banked track. Marx Sparking Commodore & State of Maine.mov, Lionel Tin Litho Hand Car 4th July.mov, Lionel Hand Car.mov, Marx Windup Commodore and Montclair.mov. Tall buildings are Chenco 1979 cansters, small parts store inside them, they into plastic footlocker on wheels, (Lowes). Roll-out-to-Running 15-20 minutes. Plastic folding sawhorses, etc. VERY NICE VIDEOS!

Seeing your Marx wind-up steam train set brings back pleasant memories.
My Brother and I each received a Marx wind-up steam train set, for Christmas, from our Parents, in the late forties.Then, for Christmas, of 1950, our Mother's two Sisters ordered from Santa Claus Lionel Scout Sets for each older boy in the family: my Brother, two Cousins and me.
They all were great train sets, then and they still are, now.

Ray, I am relatively new to Marx. About 4 years ago I aquired a Marx Commodore Vanderbilt windup set, probably from the early 1950's. Since then I have aquired a second windup, an electric CV, electric Monon Diesel, 10005 UP Passenger set(birthday present), several more freight cars, and several operating Marx accessories. I am trying to keep to the 1940's - mid 1950's era, before plastic came into use. I love the lithographed tin toylike look, they are simple, run very well and the cost is reasonable. I am almost to the point of considering building a small portable Marx layout so that I don't have to wait for the Chistmas tree to be up to enjoy running them.
When I was about 5 or 6 years old I received a windup train set. I don't remember it exactly what it looked like but I remember setting up the tubular track on the floor, winding it up and watching it run around real fast. I would guess that it was a Marx set and would have been about 1955. So there is at least a little bit of nostalgia involved.
Great Christmas display. I loved the wind up trains as my first train that ran on a track was a Marx wind up! Thanks for sharing.

that is a beautiful layout. I had a Christmas platform this past year for the first time n years. Kinda got out of it with the basement layout. I only had a loop of track , but still enjoyed it. I keep seeing all this great Marx acesories, but nowhere to put them. You gave me a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Ralph, I repainted the Commodore Vanderbilt engine and tender so they look new, but I'm surprised how good all the rest of the freight cars and the 10005 passenger train look since they are all 50+ years old. As I write this I happen to be wearing my red and black checked shirt (it's still cold here in Michigan), my shirt came from Target and is called "Merona".
This video has all the classic elements of classic toy trains, particularly Marx and your choice of background music was exceptional, a really wonderful scene that is great to view anytime of the year.
As a Marxist, as well as being a collector of the windup variety, have you checked out the O scale (for windup) Hornby turntable.? They are fairly inexpensive and I am in the midst of adding the center powered rails to it and I thought in passing I would mention it. Below is a link to some info on it.

I know that it is springtime but I finally finished editing the video that I shot of my Marx Train Layout under the Christmas tree. You'll see 1950's Commodore Vanderbilt pulling 6" 4 wheel tin freight cars, a streamlined 10005 UP tin passenger train, 2 windup Marx and a modern windup Lionel handcar.
