The + or - labels on the terminals would make sense only if it had to be run on one polarity of DC; but it will run on either AC or DC.  I'm sure most are operated on AC.

Does the wiring of this accessory have any special connection requirements. The bottom is not marked with  " + " and   "- "  next to the posts.  Does it matter which goes to which? 

Does the same hold true for the modern versions 6-12930/6-12848?
