Lionel #254 Engine
Posted by j.mel on Monday, March 14, 2011 8:26 PM

Hi,

I just bought a Lionel #254 Engine that will not operate in forward or reverse. The engine has been rewired and the brushes look good. The engine made one mad leap forward when I first put in on the track, but I quickly pulled it off the track so it didn't collide with its passenger cars. I used the manual reverse lever to reverse direction of the engine, and since than the engine will just make a slight hum or buzz when power is applied to it. The field coils seem to get pretty hot. Could the manual reverse unit be bad?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this manual reverse unit so I can see if it is wired correctly?

The motor appears to be clean and good shape.

Thanks Again,

John

Thanks again Rob, your link for the manual reverse unit wiring diagram corrected my 254 engine wiring glitch,( see other post).

The engine runs smooth as silk.

Thanks Again,

John
