Hello Rob,

Guess what? I clicked on your link for Olsen's Diagram for the manual reverse unit, copied the diagram, looked at the way my 254 Engine was wired for the reverse unit, and they didn't match. I took ten minutes to change the wiring to the way the diagram showed. At this point I was desperate. I put the engine on the track and it ran like a raped ape, both forward and reverse. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

The engine was rewired before I bought the set, but obviously, who ever did the work messed up on the wiring for the reverse unit.

It is the hump back motor and it is as clean as a whistle. I really runs smoth.

Thanks a MILLION Rob for your interest in my problem and for your great link.

THANK YOU!!!

John

Hello,

I have a Prewar Lionel #254 Engine with the disc type reverse unit. Can anyone send me a diagram of the way the wires are suppose to be installed on this unit?

Also, do these type of units have frequent problems with them?

Thanks,

John
