Have you modeled a real scene?

Have you ever modeled a scene on your layout after a real scene?

Modeling the "Fargo Area Rapid Transit" in O scale 3 rail.

I'm working on one, the station at Garrett, Indiana on the B&O mainline.  I'm using the MTH brick passenger station and the K-Line water tower.  The gated crossing is at the end of the station.  When my Williams B&O passenger train pulls up to the station, it will remind one of this first crew change stop east of Chicago.

I am also working on a very common construction scene, the traffic mess during a water line break.   I hope to add blinking lights to the barrel and we will "dig" a hole in the foam to show the broken water main.  I'm not sure how to make it look like it is spraying water, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.  I'm also going to paint those sign post stanchions a different color and add workmen.  In fact, I have been encouraged to move the whole street to uncrowd the scene. (Thanks Chuck.)

I'm modeling a scene of a "Cruise Night" at a drive-in ice cream stand.  This gives me a chance to show off some of my 1:43 scale diecast "muscle cars" along with my "O" gauge trains.  I've got to purchase some figures to stand around looking at the cars, waitresses on roller skates, etc. to add more interest to the scene.  I'll post a few pics when it's finished.

In the next month or so (once plans are final) I will prototypically model Milwaukee, WI's southside (from airport to downtown), the Amtrak station, Jones Island, the downtown CP yard, and the UP Butler yard.  If you're not familiar with the area, I recommend GoogleEarth.

Boston's freeway system is insane. It was clearly designed by a person who had spent his childhood crashing toy trains.

Have lots of mini scenes.  My Grandma hanging out the wash, based on an old photograph.  The old gas station we used to stop at in the "backwoods.  My Boy Scout patrol on a hike.  The farm country, especially the signs, between Rochester and Arcade New York.  The neon lights on main street in the 1950's.  The Bar and Grille that used to be a speakeasy in my old home. The eyeglass billboard from The Great Gatsby.

For spraying water. Could use a small bundle of fiber optics - lit. Might make it look active.

Yes. There is the Durand Milling scene along the Grand Trunk Western that I have assembled.

Upon looking at the water tower it appears the DURAND lettering needs to be readjusted.

In the 90's I was at train days in Durand, and there was a man who had made an exact replica of the depot there out of wood, it was beautiful and took him a very long time to make it.  Durand is a great place to visit.

I also bought a post card that was a photo in the early 1900's of people waiting for a train in front of my Uncles house in Bennington.  I had a great time, lots of wonderful people there.
