Hello - This is my first post: I am in possession of the following Lionel Trains.
Year of origin 1939-1942 from Lionel Book 1900-1943
Hudson 4-6-4 super detailed 2 rail #5342
003W NYC Tender 2 rail with whistle (it has a wire plug in from tender to engine)
077 Caboose NYC 2 rail (red)
0046 Hopper Car SP 2 rail #0046 (black)
0045 Tank Car 2 rail #8126 (black)
0044 Box Car 2 rail #0044 (Tuscan)
Is there any who could give me the approximate value of the above items. Everyone is dusty but in good condition. I have pictures. I am entertaining of donating them to a railroad museum or selling them.
I also have miscellaneous cars which are not Lionel - probably kits.
Regards and thanks for your help.
Gary

Interest in Lionel "OO" trains has grown over the past few years, and prices have gone up. If you want to get an idea of the value, watch some auctions on Ebay.
The cars are in the 40/60 dollar range. The engine I don't know. if you want to sell e-bay you could probably get more. at a train show, maybe less.

I think that nice "OO" rolling stock, especially tank cars, go for more than $60.
From David Doyle's Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains: 1900-1942, 2005 printing ;
003 Hudson steam locomotive cab number 5342 manufactured 1939: 003 should appear on underside of cab roof. Came with either 003W (whistle) or 004T tender. (Subtract $70 from listed values for non-whistling 004T tender.) VG $250, EX $450, LN $700 Rarity 5 out of 10.
0044 Boxcar 1939-1942. VG 45, EX 70, LN 100
0045 Tank Car type 1 1939-40. Shell S.E.P.X. 8126. VG 40, EX 60, LN 80
0046 Hopper, SP 0046 1939-42. VG 40, EX 70, LN 100
0077 Caboose 1939-42. VG 20, EX 40, LN 60
Hope this helps!

Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Just to add:
1. The Caboose can be found in two shades of red. Med. Red marked "NYC" is the most common. Light Red with Brown roof walks marked Pennsylvania is much harder to find.
2. Repair parts are near impossible to find, broken couplers or marker lights, a missing or broken bell, valve gear, and wheels results in a LARGE reduction in price and a hunt for parts.
3. Condition of paint is almost everything, not being a toy but a well cared for model, most are found in "Like New" condition. Is the paint damaged or chipped, are the decals chipped? Then maybe it can be used for parts? Boxes will add about 50% to the value in "OO" gauge.
4. Show prices on sets, $400 to $700 while a boxed set bringing $1,00 to $1,200.
