Lionel steam loco with TMCC and preferably Odessey speed control
Posted by seasonalrailfan on Monday, March 7, 2011 10:55 PM

I build semi-permanment layouts during the holidays (this years is still up) and would like to run two trains at once. I have a diesel loco with TMCC and Odessey speed control and it works great on this years 6 1/2' x 9' layout. I have my original steam loco (Hudson style) from the early 50's and a Berkshire Jr from the Rio Grande Fast Freight set. I considered adding command control and speed control but was not encouraged after a discussion with Elec RR.

I really want to remote control 2 locos on my layout next year. Does anyone either know of or perhaps have a Lionel steam loco with TMCC and Odessey speed control  for sale at a reasonable price? I do not want one of the super large (long) locos they are making now due to my limited layout size and some 36 curves I use. I was hoping not to have to spend $800+ for one, but maybe that is the market rate.

All thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,

 Terry

This is a link to the Lionel website listing for all their steam loco's w/TMCC, http://www.lionel.com/Products/Finder/searchresults.cfm?doAction=search&expandBranch=0&Keywords=&CategoryID=495&Gauge=&FeatureIconID=&RailLineID=&CatalogID=&CollectionID=&StartRow=21&SortMethod=pricelow , but not all have Odessey. You might try picking one of interest and try web searches for the Lionel item number, this listing is showing MSRP and it is possible that you may locate one on sale either at a shop or on the secndary market. Even for the larger articulated's if you find one in the Lionmaster category they will run on 031 curves.

Happy Hunting.

A few years back Lionel did have a series of Mikado Jr.'s that were TMCC with Odessey.  I think there may have been a series of Berk's also.

I don't think they've ever done a Mikado Jr. with Odessey (at least mine doesn't have it)

Look for the Lionmaster Hudsons. All the bells and whistles of the bigger scale engines, but at a more "postwar" kind of scale. I have the New York Central version.
