rwamf/Robert,

First of all  Welcome  to the forum.

Your dad's engine is American Flyer's top of the line steam locomotive. The Hudson ran from 1936 through 1939.  I'll take a guess and say that it looks as if yours is from late 1937 or 1938.  The engine is known as the #1680.  It came with several different tenders during its cataloged run.   In 1936 it came with a sheet metal tender with a whistle.

It looks like your engine is in very good shape.  Do you know if it runs?  Did it come with any cars?
