My docksider has not had a problem with the coupler, but it did have a problem with the smoke unit.   The plunger arm for the smoke unit finally broke but before it broke it caused the docksider to not run smoothly.  The arm was replaced and it worked so much better.  (For all of you that are wondering, the docksider has TMCC inside and it is one tight fit.)Smile, Wink & Grin

When I run mine in reverse, especially as a double or triple header, I refer to them as the "Poor Man's Cab Forward". Clown

Thumbs Up I actually built an add on tender using a cheap slope back tender from the earlier 70's ( I have 2 Portland,Seattle) dock-sider haven't pulled the other out as its in set box middle of pile of sets.

Well just guess it was just coincident that Brutus and i both had a problem but now see it was different problems as my knuckle broke right where the knuckle connects to shaft

I've had 5 with no issues, but Lionel's foam box is very tight on all their engines, caution is needed when removing them from the foam.

I have two that have had quite a bit of run time, no coupler issues. But the Spokane Portland & Seattle has been acting up. Whistle quit working and runs eratic. Runs better with the smoke unit turned off. I guess even the simple electronic boards don't last forever.

Yeah - I have 3 docksiders.  I bought the Halloween one when it came out, I picked up the mining one from ebay one time, and I preored the lionel lines one when it came out.  The day I got it, I opened the box and the coupler was broken.  The actual coupler would not "lock" in the closed position, I think?  The spring inside was broken?  This has been a couple years ago.  Anyway, I called Lionel CS and had a new coupler in a week.

Got four of them and the only problem I had with the couplers is the centering spring came undone once.

My first one, Santa, is a real poor smoker but the others are adequate to good.

How many of you have had a coupler break? the reason I ask is I went to get mine out to see if I could put a coil coupler on it and when I took it out of the box the coupler just rolled out onto the floor. now I have only had this out like 3 times and it was just to look at it.

I was talking to Brutus last night about doing coil coupler and he said I'd need a long one as the reason he knew was he had to replace his as it broke so this got me thinking and wondering if this may be a problem and Lionel hasn't said anything.
