One other option for replacing the bulbs in a 253 would be to use LEDs. They should be able to be inserted into the existing sockets without any modification. All that would be required is a diode inline with the common terminal clip and a resistor inline with with each remaining clip.
I don't think Jeff sells bulbs in bulk.Try Charlies trains or Ralph the Bulb guy.Jill Sisco sells 2 pin bulbs in lots of 50, all her other bubls go in lots of 100. Then there is Town and Country Hobbies.
All good folks with whom I do business.
www.ttender has them for $1.75 not sure if clear or colored but saw them listed for $1.75 and you might ask bulk price and how many for bulk

Check around for prices on ten packs.Sometimes you can get 10 for just a little bit more that the price of 1.Then you will have a lifetime supply.
Hi, Brasseur's in Saginaw has the equivalent L12. They are 12-301 Red & 12-302 Green. Red is $4 and Green is $2. George
Thanks to everyone for the help. It looks like Henningstrains has the lowest price, although with shipping the price really adds up. But for an obselete lamp I guess that I'm lucky to find them at all.
L12 and L19 bulbs are both 2-pin base bulbs. They are obsolete, difficult to find, and expensive. I am not surprised at the prices quoted on this thread.
Dave,
Also, Olsen's in Ohio.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I am trying to find replacement lamps for a Lionel 253 Block Signal that uses an L-12 lamp in both red and green. If I can't find the colored ones, I'll settle on clear and color them myself. Everything that I've searched for so far have a rediculous price (like $3 per blub plus shipping). I guess that I'm used to picking up small bayonet or screw base lamps at train show for 50 cents but I haven't seen any of the L12 lamps that has 2 small pins projecting from the base. This is the same lamp that is also used in the Lionel 195 Floodlight Tower.
