It's unfortunate that some never learned manners.

It can be a simple fix but, even though it is a bit of a hassle, I would seriously consider having an "authorized service center" make the repair. Opening the shell to make a repair could void the warranty if a problem arises.

First time on the site.....and yes, people sometimes make mistakes.  It wasn't intentional and with the number of sites that are connected here, it was easy to do.   Perhaps next time instead of being critical, you might try being an old fashioned American and try helping.

First, according to the Lionel website, the new Amfleet cab car and Amfleet add-on 2 pack are not standard O, but traditional O.   The 2010 volume one catalog listed both items incorrectly.  These cars match the Lionel HHP-8 starter set issued the year before.   The really odd thing here is that the wheel sets are the larger standard O size wheels.  

I received mine, and upon getting it on the track, things looked fine.  However, as soon as I moved the car, it became obvious that it was wired in reverse.   This car should have the headlight on while being pushed in the cab control format, and the marker lights should be on when being pulled at the end of the train.  Mine was working in reverse!   After a quick call to my supplier, sure enough, a batch must have gotten through wired in reverse.   You could ship it back to Lionel for warranty service, but should you face the same situation, it's a simple matter of taking the car apart and reverse the yellow and green wires to one another.  Check to make sure you have it right, before reassembly.    CAUTION  Do not open the truck at the cab control end of the car.  It contains a worm gear running on the axle, which then drives a small idler gear which actuates two small micro switches, that give you the change of direction lighting.  The switches are extremely small and sensitive and you may easily damage them.  If you don't have a basic understanding of electricity or soldering skills, ship it back to Lionel, they are quick to rectify any problems.  To bad they don't build in the USA, this never would have happened here.
