A/C meter hook up
Posted by thankey on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 11:00 AM

Would a 0-25 AV volt meter hook up in parallel and a 0-5 A/C amp meter hook up in series just like with DC?  I see these at AllElectronics.com.  Are these ranges ok for a Lionel LW using just one hook up from the common to the variable hot?

Thanks

Voltmeter in parallel and ammeter in series. Correct.

I'm not sure of the current output of the LW. Might want to recheck your ammeter ratings so as not to peg it out.

I would go with a 10 amp ammeter.  I f you use the common for the ammeter, you can monitor the entire output of the transformer, accessories included.  If you want to monitor just the train & track, put the ammeter in series with the center rail(Lockon clip #1).
