Just wondering if any one might know of a place where I could pick up a Lionel Canadian National 8040 loco and tender. If not both I would like to get the tender.
can get the engine easy but the tender thats the hard part unless you find some one that might have the shell in a parts bin somewhere. by the difference with the nkp tender and 8040 and the cn tender and 8040 being about double in value over the nkp It tells me they made a lot of the nkp and not that many CN
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Thanks for the reply.Any idea what the are the Canadian National tenders are going for?
not really finding one might be tuff but you could try like Olsen's or Jeff Kane at www.ttender.com he sometimes end up with some stuff but mainly is a parts guy. but best bet would be just keep watching ebay and search for cn & Canadian national in the search block when in O scale
Thanks.Sounds like good advice.
That's what makes this hobby fun, THE HUNT!
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Well the 8040 Canadian National arrived in today's mail.Little loco runs well and looks great. The manual e unit is a bit of a drag, but one can live with that.:)
Another question about the 8040.This 8040 has no light and no smoke. Were all 8040 locos built like that or did some have a light and smoke?
No light or Smoke unit if you go here then goto page 117 ( if it doesn't show up at link. https://www.lionelsupport.com/media/supplements/Supplement1to9/1Complete.pdf you will see a break down of your engine and next page has listing of all the parts.
Thank-you for that. Most interesting to look at.
Looked at Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains Volume 1,third edition and on page 87 it lists the 8040 Nickel Pate Road as having no light and manual reverse switch atop of boiler.
For the Canadian National 8040, it lists it as having smoke, headlight and two position E-unit.
Not sure what the story is about that.Any thoughts?
