The locomotive is red and on the side it has mkt with the number 600 on bottom it has lionel 027 diesel switcher this locomotive is suppose to blow smoke. Next piece is a tanker it is silver with the name sunoco on side and on bottom the number 6465 or could be the number 6468. Next piece is a red box car with the number x6014 and enjoy curtiss baby ruth candy on side. Next piece is black and I think it is called a gondola with the number 6462 NYC above that and on other side NEW YORK CENTRAL SYSTEMS built by lionel. Last piece is a maroon caboose with lionel lines and the number 6017. Also recieved lots of track and transformer 150 watts by ALLSTATE made by sears robuck &co. Any info greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a 'Sears Special", Vickie!
While I don't know much about specialty sets, what I do know is that teh equipment is pretty standard issue. The Tank car (6465) is common, the gondola is common (except if the lettering begins in the third panel instead of the second), and the 6017 caboose is common too. I'm not sure the diesel loco was supposed to smoke, however.
I'm sure that, very shorly, others who know about these sets will give you more info than I.

The transformer came from Sears, but the rest of the set could have been sold anywhere originally. The transformer is actually made by Marx, not Lionel and does not go with the train.

As for the train itself, the engine is a Lionel NW-2 switcher, which dates from 1955. While it does have two exhaust stacks on it, it isn't supposed to make any smoke. If it does smoke while running, it's an indication that something's really wrong the motor. There are two versions of this engine. If it has a black metal base with black handrails on either end, it is worth $80-$145. But, if the base is grey and the handrails are yellow, it's worth $220-$360. The cars are all farily common and worth about $10-$20 each.

I hope this helps you out.

Sask_tinplater,
The engine is black with black handrails also looks like there should be a light on front of engine and it has magnetic coupleing to hook to other pieces of train. So does it sound like the Lionel NW-2 switcher. Also i did received a lot of track and track that switches train to another track would you Know anything about them and the wires that go to track, Or anything more on the transformer this item also has on it 115 volts A.C and 60 cycles cat. no. 1859 As. And thanx evryone who replyed.

Vickie;

I looked throught my Sears catalogs and in the 1955 catalog on
page 241 I found the following....

"NEW 5-UNIT DIESEL SWITCHER ELECTRIC FREIGHT"

"D...Scale-detailed black and yellow diesel Switcher Engine has
plastic cab plus a powerful motor for pin-point control of yard work.
Use it to make or break up trains. Run fast or slow, forward or back,
couple or uncouple cars by remote control. Has couplers at front and
rear. Four big cars: box car, gondola, and caboose. Die cast steel
wheels on double trucks make * wheels to each car and engine. 8
sections curved, 1 section straight, plus "027" uncoupling track form
oval 102 in. around. UL approved. 40 watt transformer for 110-120-
volt, 60 cycle, AC. Train about 44 1/2 inches long overall.

The top gift on your youngster's Christmas list. Priced low for such
high quality.

49 N U9601 - Shipping weight 12 pounds ................................$18.95"

The illustration shows Lionel #610 NW2 Switcher, Lionel #6014
Baby Ruth box car (dark), Lionel #6012 gondola ("Lionel" on side),
Lionel #6465 Sunoco single dome tank car, Lionel #6017 caboose,
a small Lionel transformer and oval drawing of track is also pic-
tured.

Department stores typically bought large lots from manufacturers
so I am sure that some variations in items will exist. Hope this info
is helpful to you.

Although the Marx/Sears transformer didn't come with the set, it ought to run the set just fine. Like others have said, it's mostly common stuff, but certainly it'd make a good Christmas layout or an operating layout to enjoy.
