What is up with Lionel dropping the Rotary Coal Dumper?
Posted by clarence croxall on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 3:48 PM

I just read on Lionels site that they dropped the Rotary Coal Dumper. I am a little upset because I went out and bought the Canadien National Coal Set that they advertised with the accessory. Perhaps that is a reason that MTH is becoming bigger and better. I also bought some extra bathtub gondolas in anticipation of getttting the dumper. There should be some sort of penalty for stuff like this. I am very unhappy.

It's a disappointment when something we want gets canceled, But MTH and all the others cancel items with every catalog. Lionel is saying the price increase in materials and labor made this item run way over it's expected cost.

The next closest option is to look up the company AAA for their O Scale Rotary Coal Dumper.

MTH might announce one since they started putting Rotary Couplers on their Coal Gondolas for the AAA O Scale Rotary Coal Dumper.

I think Lionel's change in manufacturing vendors in China has caused some unexpected challenges and quality problems. Once the transition has settled down maybe the rotary coal dumper will be looked at again.

I'd guess they show up on ebay now and then. There could be hundreds of them in various hobby shops around the USA.
