Ray AF53 answered your question far better than I could have
Have fun with your trains
By the way....you probably want to keep them off of the concrete.

Sean - Those three cars numbered 245 and 246 and the tender were all made from 1934-1936. The locomotive was common and made between 1934-1948. This would indicate the set was made in 1934, 1935 or 1936.
Hi everyone
I added some great close ups of the train. I know that VSmith said it was pre world WAR II..
By these Photos can some one tell me if this train was made in the 1920's or 1930's?

Thanks
Sean
Hi VSmith I added some pictures of the cars close up so you can see what is written on them..
By these extra pictures can you please tell me if the train is from the 1920's or 1930's..
Dear Vsmith
Yes the train runs great, and thank you so much for your help.
When you say pre WWII does this mean like the 1920's and 1930's range????

Well thats a Marx train, the engine is a Commadore Vanderbilt, I have 2 of these, the cars have faux trucks unlike mine, which are the more commonly available cars so thats a slightly more unique set of cars. They are about the same value as the regular cars, Does it run? They are fun sets to have.
To me the street value (based on what I've seen for sale at shows) the engine is worth between $20-$50 depending on condition, the 3 cars between $8-$15 each again depending on condition. Track ehhhh.....$5-$10, only nutjobs like me are interested in wind-up tracks. the whole set is worth $50-$150, again depending on condition, $50 for fair condition to $150 for like new never used condition. Again this is based on my own observations from my own purchases and from show prices I've seen.
Marx made mechanical trains right up until they closed their doors, but the Commie Vandies were mostly pre-WW2 but I think they still made them up the the 50's? when they were replaced with a non-streamlined stamped steel steam loco body and later with a plastic body shell. I wouldnt be too surprised if that is a pre-war era set. Hope this helps.
Hi Ray
I did up load the pictures of my train. My camera is not the best, but it will show you what it looks like..
On The black car behind the Enigine. It has this on the Side of it.

On the Engine in the front of the car it says this on an Oval sticker.
New York Central Lines..
Picture are here.
Anyways I know nothing about this train. I bought it a few years back. It has Metal tracks and the
Engine is Wind up.
Sean, you might find that your story meets with some skepticism on the part of the older members of the forum. About four years ago, there was a fellow who called himself "Zeke", who had a comparable hard-luck story, that turned out to be a scam. He took in a number of good-hearted members, who sent him trains out of sympathy, before he was found out.
I hope that your case is not a repeat of the Zeke soap opera. Perhaps you can explain something in your story that doesn't quite add up for me: You said you were involved in a car wreck, in which your wife, aunts, uncles, and grandparents all died. That's one wife, at least two aunts, two uncles, and two grandparents, along with you and your daughter, for a total of at least nine persons in your car. That's a lot even for a minivan. Were you driving a small bus rather than a car?

Hi I am just wondering how many post do I have to make before the approval thing stops.
I thought it said after your first post was made that the aproval thing stops. I have now tried two

do before this stops???
Hi Ron
Sorry I did not know I posted it in the wrong place. I did not realize that there was people collecting
real life size trains on this Forum. Now I did have many model trains that were sold off
after my wife death in a car wreck to pay for hospital bills and funeral cost.. Another driver
hit us staright on at 60 mph and kill off everyone in the car except my daughter and I.
This was in Nov. 2006 we went to do Christmas shopping, and the other driver lost
control of their car and hit us. Kill my wife, aunts, uncles, and grandparents off.
I almost died and spent around 1 month in ICU my daughter was in for 3 weeks in ICU.
I had her very late in life in my 30's and she will turn 13 this year. She lost her mother
right before Christmas and her 8th Birthday..She was born in Dec. Anyways she wittness
the death of everyone in that car. She told me later she could tell I was alive but not responding
to anything. Well my lungs had collapsed and all the bones in body had been broke. I was
knocked out unconsious, but she was not and try hitting her grandmother to wake her up.
She said " daddy she would not wake up.."" At that time she realize everyone had died in the car.
After a month in the hospital I sold off my home and moved to Texas to start a new life with her.
She still has many medical problems I deal with everyday. Anyways sorry if I posted this to the wrong
forum. I am new to this site and was just hoping to get help on the train set,and make some new
friends.
We live really far out in the country now.. No more big city life for us.
As in real life honest to goodness full size trains train.
