Any have the Lionel K-Line Fire house?
Posted by 027_Daniel on Thursday, January 20, 2011 9:55 AM

I was looking at this fire house and am curious about the size of the doors? Will they fit a 1/43 scale fire engine in the door? Or, could you measure the height and width of the doors?

I like the looks of this one over hte plasticville but would like to fit the 1/43 fire engines I already have.

Thank you,

Lionel says the building's longest dimension is about 8 1/4 inches.  I counted the bricks on an enlarged picture (estimating the larger corner stones at 1.5 bricks) and got 32.5.  The doors appear to be about 8 bricks wide.  All of this gives a door width of 2.031 inches, or 7 feet 3 inches in 1/43 scale.

This seems a little narrow for a fire truck.  California allows trucks generally to be as wide as 8.5 feet, but makes an exception for fire trucks, which may be up to 10 feet wide.  But, since you have the actual trucks you want to use, you can compare them directly to my 2.031-inch estimate (at your own risk!).

The building is only 4 1/2 inches deep on the outside, which makes for a pretty stubby fire truck.  Will that be a problem too?

If it is like the Plasticville stuff, you won't get the full truck inside the firehouse. Some of the K-Line buildings were about the same size as Plasticville buildings, Plasticville is closer to 1/60th scale than it is 1/48th. The box that the K-Line building came in should have on it wether it is scale or not, and if it don't say Scale, it isn't 1/48th scale.
