Does anyone know where to find EMS figures in O gauge?  I found several HO scale made by Preiser, but cannot find any in O Gauge.  Any help would be greatly appreciated..

If you can find a Lionelville Firehouse, that has a smaller footprint than the MTH one. I managed to shoehorn a Corgi fire truck in the open bay. My 2-year old love to hit the button and get the fire truck to light up inside the firehouse

I plan on trying to get as much of the real thing in as possible, and I definitely won't forget the EMS (if I could find them!) as I am both an EMT and an Emergency Room nurse....I really want to do it all with this, but since I am new to this I am going to have to find my way.....I want to include street signs, barricades, everything.....I've been making a list, and it grows every day of stuff that I remember....

Thanks for posting the pic, fifedog, really nice work...gives me some ideas...

The MTH firehouse has a huge base.  I helped hide some of the "footprint" with a ceramic police station.  The boys from Engine Co 234 are trying to rescue "Socks" from the roof.

Welcome Gabesdad!

IF you can find it, a real good set would be the Fire Rescue set from 2002/2003.  I have this set and it has a chrome water tanker, first aid caboose, command car and a Hudson to DIE for.

I, like you, have been searching for the stuff needed for a real fire scene.  I have the K-Line figures which are really good.  I have been looking at the MTH House Fire as well.  You may want to also look at the MTH Fire House.  The animation is pretty good.  A couple of months ago, CTT showed how to modify the fire truck with red lights.  If you can find and afford them Code 3 had/has some 1/48 or 1/50 stuff that is really detailed.  Also, don't discount the LeMax/Dept. 56 stuff.  Not bad for the price, and I collect firehouses.

Don't forget the cops and Doctor bags (EMS types...Smile, Wink & Grin), someone has to control traffic and do CPR!

Most of my stuff is stored away for now ( I just moved ), so I can't post anything, but I'm hoping you do soon.  Let's see what you purchase!

Thank you everyone for the advice thus far...I have really been hitting ebay as well as the three local train shops looking for items...I did find the K-Line firefighter set, as well as another set that is half firefighters / half rescued tenants...From what the local train shop owner told me, MTH is re-releasing the burning house that squirts water in April (maybe?) of this year....I am limited by what I set up on the platform, as it is under our tree and the tree rests on it, but I will post pics when I get it set up, which unfortunately, won't be til next year...At least I can make a few purchases between now and then...

Hi GABESDAD Welcome to DA FORUM,

Also look into the lighting for police cars and firetrucks.  Heres a neat site for that stuff that WOWs everyone.

Gabesdad - First off ----> Welcome.  Quite a few first-reponders here to help ya.

An absolute must is the MTH working fire house (re-issued with multiple Co numbers).  Your little one will really work out the activation button. Yes  You literally could spend years (and we hope you do) collecting all the FD related trains and accessories produced over the years.  It would make a neat themed 4x8 layout.

Gabesdad,

Welcome to the forum.  There are a couple of directions you can go.  Lionel made a "Burning Switch Tower" that you can do a search for to get the model number and then try several avenues for purchase (ebay, etc).  Also, MTH (Mike's Train House) made a "House on Fire" that you can do the same.  The MTH one comes with a firefighter with a much too large for scale hose that actually shoots water into the house.  With regards to figures, K-Line had a set of firefighters that you can use as do a few other manufacturers.  I believe Artista makes a set with a firefighter rescuing a girl (She is on his shoulder).  DieCast Direct offers several fire engines and trucks to complete the scene, but the available ones are usually either 1/43 or 1/50 scale as O-scale trains are 1/48.  To most, the scale thing is not an issue, just want you to be aware before ordering.  Some manufacturers have kits available for installing working lights in emergency vehicles if you want to get that in depth.  Also, barricades and traffic cones are available.  Good luck.

Dennis

Edit:  Just recall that MTH also has a Burned out fireworks factory that you may be interested in.

firefighter / burning building advice
Posted by Gabesdad on Monday, January 3, 2011 9:53 PM

Hello everyone, I am new to the site.  Accidently posted this over at one of the other boards by mistake. I am a 18 year veteran of the local volunteer fire department and recently purchased the Lionel American Fire and Rescue train for my 18 month old son. I am interested in setting up a fire scene on our 4x8 platform. Any suggestions as to which figures and structures are the best available to purchase.  I want to make it as authentic as possible with police directing traffic, bystanders, etc....Any help would be greatly appreciated.
