Count me among the Marxies! I have recently developed an interest in O gauge AF, but Marx stuff is still my main passion! Loved it as a child, and still do. Nothing runs like Marx!
Yeah, there once was a Marx Trains Collectors Club in the mid 60's - Marx Trains even produced at least one car; a freight/caboose combo #1996-7363 in Denver & Rio Grande Western colors. Don't know IF this car was the only run but it's the only one I have! Must be supper rare $$$$$! I'm gon'na try and include a photo and if successful, you'll see the 'MTCC 1996' under the caboose end.
I'm not a major collector, but I've got a couple Marx trains too. The simplicity used to make them affordable somehow makes them attractive too. I've got a 999 and a Commodore Vanderbilt, as well as two sets of cars to go with them.

Although my major collection is American Flyer, I still collect a lot of Lionel, K-Line and dearly love MarX electic trains. I run a MarX layout in my Ironton AMVETS Service Office.
Last week I picked up two 999 engines, one is Excellent the other Very Good. Since I am TTOS the old descriptions are legal

I like Lionel as well.As a kid I never heard of AF so like yourself I never developed an interest in it either.

AF53 As I remember I never could have the engine run at full speed! You're right they are the fastest next to American Flyer clockwork. Maybe Marx could have adopted the banked track like my clockwork track! Oh well, too late! lol Ray

Yes, they are fast.Mine would never stay on the cornors at high speed either.Use to run the throttle at full on the traights then throttle back on the curves.Was fun to see how long I could run at full on the straight before I cut back for the cornor and still have the train stay on the tracks.Ah the joys of being a boy.

Marx fan here! I work in a Litho plant, and I really appreciate the Marx Litho work. Been picking up what I can here and there. The Yahoo Group is good. lots of info, and a buy/sell section.
I think there was a Marx Collectors grop, but I'm pretty sure it died with the new Marx.

Count me in. The colorful lithography, their bulletproof elegantly simple mechanisms, their affordability have placed my Williams,MTH, and K Line equipment on the shelves, and has led to the slow replacement of "realistic" structures with the Marx gate crossing, freight house, Girard station etc. There is a charm to Marx , yes, a classic factor that new equipment lacks. I think the learning process is as interesting as the trains themselves, and unfortunately, although this magazine is titled classic trains, you can count the Marx articles on one hand, which is simply the way it is and no criticism intended. Another option is to join the TCA. Look up Marxtin on the web.. a great site...Robert Grossman has many repair parts...even the later production is a lot of fun..to collect, What you cannot see in the photo below is the fun of mixing things up..for example the B unit on the RI diesel has been fitted with a MTH knuckle coupler and is a pulling a long string of K line passenger equipment while the 333 is pulling an equally long string of six inch tin cars..all this has reinvigorated my waning interest n the hobby.The S gauge size of a great deal of Marx equipment that runs on O track is another interesting aspect of this.

Yes those old Marx trains were pretty tough costomers,Ray.How fast did you have to get yours to go before it went off the track on a cornor?How far woud it go after leaving the track, after getting it up to full speed on all your straight track?Ah those were the days.

Yes, I have noticed that the magazine and this site are mostly AF and Lionel.With Marx no longer in business it makes it harder to talk about as there is no new produce to talk about.The new tin Marx is now out of business and there has been no plastic Marx since the 70s
I like Lionel but I still enjoy the Marx stuff as well.My first O gauge train set from the mid 60s was a Marx.Still have it and it runs great even with the abuse I put it through as a child.
This is mostly an Lionel and AF group, I think there's a Yahoo Marx group.
