Good evening. I am trying to do some work with my newly inheirted Lionel train set. I have an Type LW "Trainsmaster" transformer & am trying to figure out which binding post to use to power my Automatic Gateman to see if he will still come out of the house. The Greenburg book I have says it operates at 12 volts, but the LW does not have 12 volts marked on any of the posts. Just 18 v & 14 v. I have been to Lionel's site & cannot find my transformer listed. Any help? My son would like to see the little man come out of the house before New Years! :) Thanks & Merry Christmas.
PS One more dumb question. Am I dealing with AC or DC here. My HO stuff is all DC & I have 12 volt power from that. Would those work?
(1) Use the 14V posts.
(2) This is AC.

the DC may harm the gate man
the 14 v side is good as stated above.

Actually, the gateman can be run on DC volts, since the solenoid is only used to open the door and move the gateman. The spring returns the figure. Running on DC is quieter, but it does require a bit of electronics knowledge to convert the AC to DC. There won't be any problem running it on 14vac----
