Joe, I have the exact same problem. I just purchased this unit today, followed all the directions and no smoke. The simulated flames look great but, after much time, still no smoke. I plan on calling Lionel tomorrow or going back to my place of purchase. Lionel, are you listening? SHOE

Maybe you need to throw another hobo on the fire? Ick!

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

Joe, I returned my Depot to the store I purchased at after they spent a half hour trying to get it to smoke. Hopefully the replacement they ordered will do better. BUT......I called Lionel and they admitted that the picture on the box is a computer generated "simulation" of a burning building. The person I spoke to and their Director worry that they will catch a lot of flak on this one.....and they should if it doesn't perform as advertised! I'm suprised at Lionel using such a bogus picture on the box. SHOE
