John,

There isn't much I can tell you about the # 254 or 254E, except it is a pre war version of an electric locomotive(0-4-0), from 1927 to 1934. This info is from Greenberg's price guide for Lionel, NO set listed!  Pre war is before 1943, post war is after 1945, NO in-between like from 1943 to 1945.

For sets, try Doyle's guide books.

254/254E Questions
Posted by j.mel on Saturday, December 18, 2010 1:08 PM

I am thinking of purchasing a Lione 254 or 254E Train set and I have many question I hope an experienced someone out there can answer. Here goes;

1)The set is olive green with red window trim and red hatches on the engine, also a red stripe around the base of the engine body where it meets the frame, could this be an 254E engine?

2) The wheels are spoke wheels, did the 254/254E come with spoke wheels?

3) The plastic window inserts are all there but some are loose from the windows, could these be re-gllued? I would like to keep them original.

4) The pick up assembly has been replaced, but the old one is still with the set and it has the two original rollers on it and the Lionet Tag attached to it, can this tag be installed on the replacement pickup assembly?

5)Can anyone tell me the set number. It has the original boxes with it.

6)I It is missing the bras grab handles and stanchions on the on one side door , can these be purchased somewhere how do you install them.

I hope someone can help with my many questions.

The train looks just like Banks set only it has red trim instead of orange and I am not sure if it is a 254E.

Thanks,

John Smile
