I see that years ago faux made wraps for restoring marx tinplate cars and now i notice the website is closed. i have seen videos of people posting there own custom wraps. i wanted to perhaps take a try at a custom wrap. anyone have any thoughts or ideas on where i can buy wraps or a quick lesson on how to make them if its possible?
any info is much appreciated!

My understanding is that this material is no longer available. Over at the Marxtin website, if you go to the custom section of the site, there are some custom cars that are very well done without this material, using simple techniques..which are explained. They look great.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.
Wow, that is a lot of striping.
I have some litho cars that I also want to try to restore and reproduce the litho. Here is what I'm planning on doing. I have some decal paper from www.papilio.com and I'm planning on drawing the details up on the computer and printing them out on decal paper. It is going to take some experimenting.
Keep us posted. The only problem I could foresee is curving the decal paper around the roof without it creasing or folding., unless the roof was simply repainted and the horizontal car sides were done. If it has sliding doors, that would be a challenge. Good luck, it sounds like a fun experiment.
I am in too! I have some Lionel lithos that I thought about doing with a similar process. Seems a shame not to be able to restore these beauties somehow.

It's my understanding that most wraps are only for the sides. The roof would be painted a color to match the wrap. I remember seeing some wraps that did the roof as well, and some that had instructions on how to fill in areas of the common 4 wheel cabooses to make them into boxcars to be wrapped.
