http://www.charlesro.com/ By the way I forgot to give you their link.  The Diesel Engine is not listed in their inventory,  just call and ask for it.  That Engine is part of a set that Lionel issued in their 2009 1st catalogue.  Good Luck.  I'll also be putting up pics possibly a vid in the Christmas Layout Forum.

I bought the Lionel Lionmaster Conrail Diesel set a year ago ( LOVE IT Cool.  Anyway it has a SD80MAC #4120 and it came with the cw-80 transformer, it runs just fine.  Mine has dual can style motors with the fly wheels, should be the same as what you lookin at.  I really am pleased with the entire product.  I got it for around $500, came with some really nice rolling stock, fasttrack, cw-80 transformer, and the legacy equipped Conrail SD80MAC.  I liked it so much I bought the CAB-2 controller to be able to use all the features of the new Legacy System.  My son and I both get tons of enjoyment out of it.  By the way, I was at Charlesro the other day and they were selling that exact Engine Only for $249 new(Conrail 4120).  It might not be the UP #8444 but the Charlesro price of $249 for the Conrail 4120 and they sell the Legacy CAB-2 for $279.  Cheaper than the one UP, and you get Legacy equipped engine and a CAB-2 for much less than the UP engine.

There should be no problem running a Legacy engine with a CW-80.  In conventional you will not be able to access all the features but will still get many of the sounds.  Install the battery to prevent loosing the sounds when at low voltage.

Sounds like the dealer wants to add another transformer to your purchase.

Running Lionel's Legacy Locomotives in Conventional mode with a CW-80 Transformer

I had a question, I was going to buy One of lionel's Legacy equipped Union pacific SD70Ace's #8444, but the owner of the trainshop i go to says that a plain cw-80 transformer wont supply the sufficient power to run this locomotive, he states they require 150 watts of power at minimum, and that if it did run at all with a cw-80 it would probably hardly move at all, but friends of mine have the UP sd70ace heritage units and can run 2-3+ of them at one time with a cw-80 with the legacy command control set without a problem, and say that the owner is incorrect. Does lionel's legacy engines run well in conventional mode with a regular Cw-80 transformer? Because i dont want to spend $550 to find out the locomotive wont run with my cw-80 Lol. I do eventually plan on buying the Legacy command set, but i want to get a few legacy equipped locomotives first before i make the investment.

Thanks!
