You can't go wrong with the king of Postwar Lionel transformers, the 275W ZW. I've seen them recently at shows, in good working condition, for $125.00. If in the market for one, I'd be tempted to toss a Benjamin on a vendor's table and see if he'd trade for a ZW. A few years back, you couldn't touch a ZW for less that $250.

Regards,

CJ Meyers

Did you use the A-U posts? B-U will NOT give enough voltage for some engines.

lionel transformers

I have a lionel transformer model 1033, 90 Watts.  I run a single train on my set.  Lately, it seems like it's not giving the train enough juice to get started and go.  I ran my engine on a friends late model set and transformer, and it runs great.   So, it seems I need to upgrade my transformer.  Any suggestions on what to buy that is reasonably priced?  Preferably used, but will go new if necessary.   Thank you,  Ed
