In those 4-4-2's, the front truck can actually be rotated either way. As long as you're running on around O36 or larger curves, it doesn't really make a difference. But for tighter curves just turn it facing foward.
SantaFe158If it's the 4-4-2 locomotive, it should be facing towards the front of the locomotive.

I’ve been letting my young grandson play with the Lionel Christmas train and he had it off the track playing with the wheels when I noticed that front truck can be rotated 360 deg. There is a V slot to allow it move with the track. My question is which direction it should be in, because I don’t remember if the V should be pointing toward the front or toward the back.
