I have six switches that I have purchased periodically on e-bay. They all had the same problem initially. They would stick mechanically. I have applied WD-40 liberally on them and evenually they work fine. Is there any special way to lubricate the switches. I do have one that still sticks.

One area that you need to check is where the spring loaded plunger is located.  You have the remove the plate under the light housing area and you will see the "V" shape top of the plunger that keeps the rails from moving.  Sometimes that is rusty or corroded preventing smooth operation.  The notches that the plunger goes into also need to be without any corrosion to prevent hang ups.  I also use WD-40 to clean and keep my switches functioning smoothly.  The main area to lube is the rail pivot point, where the plunger is located and along the bar that connects the electro magnet to the moving rails ar every joint /connection.

Thanks for the reply. I also found that there is an adjustment that can be made on part that the wedge piece contacts. On the switch that would stick, the link would move past the wedge on one position of the switch. When the switch was moved the other way, the wedge was still in contact with the link. By centering the wedge contact I got the switch to work. At least that my story and I'm sticking to it.
