Hi - I have the lionel polar express "O" gauge set - with fastracks. The system worked fine last year, but when I got it out to put around the tree for my 5 & 3 year old, the engine does not work. The system is getting power - all the lights on the engine and passenger cars turn on, but the engine does not roll. I tried a simple oval, with the one CW-80 transformer. How can I tell if I need to have the engine fixed or if the transformer is bad? Could it be a lubrication problem or something else? Help! I have no idea how to troubleshoot the engine to make it roll, and there are not easy dealers close by. Thanks!
If you are getting power as indicated by the headlight and coach lights being on, coaches on the tracks at same time as the engine, check to make sure that the "reverse unit" switch is in the on position. It is possible that the engine is currently locked in neutral.
The owners manual shows where the reverse unit switch is located. If you don't happen to have the manual it can be downloaded from the Lionel site:
