Royal Blue paint
Posted by Darth Santa Fe on Saturday, November 27, 2010 6:09 PM

I was just about to repaint my AF Royal Blue today, only to find out my can of paint from a while ago no longer works (I think it was more than half empty anyway). The paint I used was from Classic Model Trains in Ohio. Their website is gone, but I think they're still around. Before I go ahead and try calling them, is there anywhere else online where I can get the right color of royal blue paint?

I'm thinking I used a Krylon blue when I repainted my 350..

I just looked at the Krylon paints down at Ace, and found one that should look just like the AF Royal Blue (Krylon Now Royal Blue). I get 9 ounces of it, and yet it's cheaper than getting the color from someone who sells train restoration paints! We'll have to see how it turns out when I have a chance to use it in a few days.

The Krylon paint turned out great! The color is smooth and bold, and looks very close to the AF Royal Blue I used before. This blue is a little more pure and deep than the AF paint, but it's close enough for me to be happy with it. I'll put up pictures when it's all done.Big Smile It's also quite a bit glossier, which is something I was actually going for in the first place (AF reproduction paint was flat).

www.Trainenamel.com

Charles C. Wood in Ohio (TCA Member) now makes the full line of Lionel, AF, and Ives restoration colors.  The Lionel Blue Comet was produced , over the years, in 3 different colors, I only see the 350 Royal Blue listed under American Flyer.       I even like the music on his Web Site.

I should also add that "Weaver Quality Craft Models"   www.weavermodels.com markets "Scalecoat Paints" in a wide number of colors.
