Richard,
What side is broken? I broke the two that join at the brushplate lug, and there was no way to remove any windings to reattach them.
The motor doctor can rewind just about anything as well. He can replace broken commutators on pre-war too. Google him.

Thanks for your help. The trouble I am having occurs when I try to unwind the two broken ends. The ends (which I can just get a hold on) are very tight between the coil and the assembly and I can't get them to unwind in either direction.

I agree with the previous response, I broke a wire off my 740 handcar. I took two wraps off the field resoldered the wire and all works well.
If you choose to have the more rewound, I found that Portline Hobbies offers the service. Link is pasted below:

Good luck with your project,

If you break off the outisde end of the wires, you can just unwrap one or two turns without noticeably affecting the operation of your trolley. If you break off the inside, then the field needs to be rewound. Here is a link to the books with coil specs:

I have broken these wires off as well, and the only option I had was to get another field.
Is there a site that explains how to unwind & rewind a 50-42 field assembly (double wound)? Two wires on one side broke at the coil and I don't know how to free up enough length to solder the necessary connections.
