I have a vintage #333 that I just had repaired a little after Christmas, this past spring.
We put the tree up and I was running it under the tree with the transformer from my NYC Flyer.
It was running great for 2 hours, then I stopped the train, and then nothing. The green light started blinking... is this a short?
I took the engine apart and found nothing that looked out of the ordinary. I took out the brushes, cleaned them and put them back in. The engine runs very smoothly on the table, and the motor spins freely.
What could cause this to just stop? Would a blown bulb do anything? Is there anything that I can do to get it running or am I going to have to send it back out, again.
Thanks,
Mario.
As a kid my first train was a Marx and as I recall if I ran it too long it would overheat and stop running. Being under a christmas tree you could have a short across the track or it simply overheated.

If it overheated, how do I get it going again? Its already sat overnight...
Could the solenoid have siezed in the middle? Do I need a transformer with a higher wattage?
Thanks, Mario...
Ok, found it!
The smoke unit's heater coil had burned out and separated, and had been touching the unit body causing it to ground.
It will be sent Monday for a new smoke unit.
It was smoking like a fiend when it was running. Much more than my NYC Flyer's 0-8-0.
thanks, Mario
Glad you found the problem. Your post did not mention it had sat overnite before you discovered it wouldn't run again. I assumed you took it from the track to the work bench thus giving it time to cool off. You did state it ran on the bench.
