Posted by edtybor on Thursday, November 4, 2010 2:23 PM

I have a lionel #2343 santa fe engine.  When I place it on a track only the rear motor works. All the wiring looks fine. Does anyone have any suggesttion on what may be wrong? Thanks

2343 F3 Restore or Clean?

Lionel 2343's - Service Before Holiday Running -

And, There are several other similar discussions in the archives.

Basically, do the usual service first - clean & lube.  Do a visual inspection of wiring & connections, make sure all wheels & motors move without binding.

I've also heard that it's kind of hard to get both motors running in sync with each other, they are pretty old and outside of the usual maintenance or replacement, I don't know how much you can do, but don't take my word for it, the only postwar locomotives I own are steamers, I think somebody had the same problem and just removed one of the motors and runs it like one of the later F3's that had one motor with good results.

I pulled apart the motor, cleaned it, and now it is running great! Thanks for the help!
