Williams #5017 Rdg.camelback engine instruction sheets.
Posted by RDG-GEEP7 on Sunday, October 24, 2010 2:41 PM

I recently purchased a Williams #5017 Reading 4-6-0 camelback engine on E-bay. It needed a thorough cleaning and lube, which I did with a minimum of unforseen problems. The unit came complete with box and styrofoam carrier,BUT,unfortunately did not have the instruction sheets and parts sheets with it. I since learned that the smoke unit does not work and would like to replace it. I checked with the Bachmann/Williams website to no avail. Does anyone know of a web site that might carry a copy of the needed instructions that I can download?? Thanks.

Welcome RDG-GEEP7,

I have bought a few Williams engines and they don't come with parts sheets. If you need a new smoke unit try Marty at Ma&Pa Junction in Maryland, he has a good knowledge of Wiiliams Trains, I think the website is www.ma&pajunction.com

Thanks for the replies to my inquiry. To phillyreading, the & is not part of the address for www mapajunction.com,but thanks,I figured it out.He gave me the phone number of someone that worked for Williams for 30 years that might have what I am looking for. His name is Frank Vacek 410-465-3782.

For those that just can do it without the instruction sheets,I removed the smoke unit from the engine and hooked it up to a small transformer, guess what? It works just fine.SO,I soldered it back in the engine and started a search for an off/on switch. Found it near the rear of the engine underneath, where the engine and tender hook together. GEE,maybe if I had the instructions I could have saved some time. HA HA. Yes well, thanks for the info, guys.
