I can't help with that article as it was back aways, but I can tell you that adding washers may not help. I have the Lackawanna and replaced the armature bushings and that turned a noise engine into a very nice runner.

CTT HAD A RECENT Q&A COLUMNN ON THE ELIMINATING THE NOISE, "GROWLING" IN A LIONEL ROCK ISLAND 484 NORTHERN.  I BELIVE IT HAD TO DO WITH THE INSERTION OF A NUMBER OF THRUST WASHERS IN THE MOTOR SHAFT. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE MONTH OF THE ARTICLE OR BETTR, THE REPIR RECOMMENDED?
