On the 332 I have just serviced, the eccentric crank on the right side moves front to back on the end of the stud. When I instaledl the crank to the brass stud in the driver, I made sure that the square hole in the crank was seated on the squared portion of the stud and tightened the screw. However, the crank isn't tight on the stud as it should be. It only moves a small amount front to back, but the fact that it moves at all concerns me. Should I be worried?

I just checked my 336 and it also moves back and forth just a little bit. The bolts are tight to the studs. I think this little movement is required to keep things from binding.
Have you turned the drive wheels through a couple cycles by moving the armature with your finger? May be a dumb question but I do it whenever I have had the side-rods off just to be sure I have it all assembled correctly.

I doubt that there is any practical reason for having the crank loose. I infer that the crank on the other side is tight and that there is no problem having it that way. I suspect that the screw is simply a little too long and is bottoming out in the hole. The designers may not have allowed for the possible tolerance buildup.

I always make sure to turn the armature by hand after reinstalling siderods or the armature. I'd prefer to discover a bind this way rather than under power. In this case, the armature turns smoothly by hand and this 332 is a smooth runner under power.

I wasn't sure if the play was due to design or wear at first.
A little side to side play is OK as long as there is no binding and the shoulder screw is seated.
