The sc2 gets its power from the first position if you use the older tin switches, however you can cut the trace going to the power terminal, power the sc2 from an external source, and use all 6 positions with fastback switches.

Thank goodnes I remembered to do a search and find this since I picked up 2 SC-2s to replace the SC-1s I was using on my Fastrack because the SC-1 would cause the Fastrack switches to chatter any time the switch was used or any kind of rolling stock went through the switch. The SC-2 have cured this. No one ever has done what I have that I know of and Lionel Tech could not give me an answer, so I thought I would pass this along.

I talked to lionel's tech. service and they said you have to use the power pack or separate power to the sc-2 and not to use the # 1 terminal therefore you are only able to operate 5 switches.

Hope this will help anyone else with the same problem.

Jon307 is correct. The owner's manual for fastrack switches does say that you should not connect a fastrack switch to the #1 terminal on the SC-2.

The owners manual for the SC-2 does not include fastrack switches but it give  you instructions for connecting  up to six "O"  or "O27"gauge switches. If you don't have the owner's guide for the fastrack switches, you can get it here: http://www.lionel.com/media/servicedocuments/57036712048250.pdf

It is very confusing. I would strongly suggest that if connecting the five swiches don't work, that you contact customer support at Lionel. I don't have an SC-2 controller so I can't duplicate the problem here.

Let us know what you find out from Lionel.

In the switch owners manual on pg 10 it states the sc-2 is capable to control 5 remote switches at a time. It also states Do not connect your fastrack switch to the #1 terminal on the sc-2.

I tried that and the sc-2 does not power, sc-2 only powers up when I use all 6 terminals

Jon307

I have 10 lionel fastrack remote switches and 2 sc-2 controllers, how do I wire them so they work.

I wired 6 switches to 1 sc-2 controller and the first switch makes a lot of noise and switches slow, the other 5 work fine. I'm using separate power to run the switches by removing jumper on switches.

What am I doing wrong.

If five of them are working, it doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong. Have you followed the instructions in the manual? If you don't have one, here is a link to it:
