i bought an awful looking 2055 type MPC engine someone screwed the paint dead up on, so i repainted it tonight. i went with gunmetal gray & it looks very good as it is, but I'm thinking of putting a white stripe on the sides of the walk boards & painting the rims on the wheels white too. i just don't know if it would look good or not. if it was black with white trim & rims it would look good, but I'm not sure with the gunmetal paint. what do you guys think? have any of you custom painted any old steam? i need some idea's. what's your opinion?
i believe the engine was a 8603 as the rims look like they had paint on them or had been polished at on time. is there any way to get them blackened & what would i have to use to do it?
thanks everyone, jerry
The 8603 was made both with machined rims and painted rims. Use gun bluing on clean rims to blacken.
The closest to a 2055/8603 Lionel did in gunmetal was the 225E:
Which had steel rims on the same Baldwin Disc wheels(as the 8206 & 8603). If you like the look, machine the rims just enough to shine.

Well, here it is. i painted it the way I think Lionel should have done at least one of their small Hudson's.
