I am starting railroad again after fifty years and I am having a hell of a time remembering how to st up the lionel tressels on my board I just can't figure how the metal parts go alond with the tressels and of course i don't have the original directions any help will be greatfully accepted thanks

A metal clip slips into the channels at the top of each trestle. The holes in the clips are for securing the track to the top of the trestle with small screws. It's sometimes challenging to align the holes in the clips with those in the track.

Along with what Robert mentioned the slot openings face down or toward the layout platform. The little holes are for securing the track to the metal piece that goes through the trestle, the screws are probally a size 4 sheet metal screw that you can buy at a hardware store.
