I am not familiar with the clinchers sold by Stan Orr.
The quality of the tooling I have seen varies widely.
The best tools that I have seen are those that are made by Chicago Rivet, the company that made the ST-350 rivet press outfits for Lionel. (They did not make the cups).These tools are very expensive, much more than the Hanson ones mentioned above.
A few years back, Jeff Kane (Train Tender) had his own tools made. They are very nice quaility. I am not certain whether he still has them. He also carries a lot of Hobby Horse Product.

Whether to invest in specialized train repair tools is a big question for many. It took me a long time to decide to make the plunge. But with the cost of today's trains, and the difference in the quality of the work I can do with these tools, for me it turned out to be a no-brainer.

 Looks like Stan Orr has some less expensive rivet clinchers as well as a punch set for flaring rivets. Big Smile

New to this repair stuff.

 Still gonna need the correct size rivet clinchers when I do get the rivets. Not really wanting to spend 150 for the Lionel rivet clinchers set.

5 of the rivet clinchers alone from Hanson rivet are 110+. Minus the other tools in the Lionel service set. Guess you cant win. Unless, there is another way.

Just about any Lionel parts dealer will carry parts to repair trucks.
I often use Jeff Kane / the Train Tender.

Would like to know what you do to fix postwar trucks, for instance...

I have a crane car with the thick spacer between the bottom of the flat and truck. The spacer is supposed to be riveted to the truck. And what about the coupler with the rivet that is supposed to be riveted to the plate. Or the rivet in the plate with tension spring.

Any ideas, resources, or past threads you can point me too.
