I just purchased yesterday at an estate sale a American Flyer standard gauge freight set. The locomotive is a 2-4-2 with the cast iron boiler. square tender, gondola and caboose. My question is: It appers to be all origanal. But I thought it strange that all the wheels on the locomotive do not have the nickle rims. The side rods are not nickeled either. (although the 2 coneecting rods are broken) It dose not apper that the nickeling on the rods were "worn off". It looks like it never was nickeled in the first place.
Is this correct?
What year would it have not had the nickeling?
Also dose anyone have a set of connecting rods that are not nickeled in their junk box I could buy?
