Thanks Jim.
Adjust the arms that link the doors to the plunger. I had to do this to my 3456 when I got it a few years ago. The adjustment is a trial and error process on these.
Had a "string" of them and K-Line's. Left a nice coating of coal all over the tracks. Great for getting into gears and jamming locomotives. I stopped using them. Suggestion: switch to the Lionel plastic coal if you insist on using a "coal" load. I put some of mine in storage and the rest I gave away. The big K-Line diecasts now have simulated coal loads.

My 3456 hopper car is not closing and holding the hopper doors with enough strength to efficiently dump and load on the coal ramp. Have tried differant doors and plunger assembly. Any ideas on this problem. I use convential coal.
