try to find them in closed auctions on Ebay,
If they are Lionel, most, if not all of them will have numbers printed on the side or bottom.
Use the numbers as a search key.
Condtion is everything, and original boxes in nice condition will usually enhance the value.

Need help with finding value of trains.
Posted by Newwithtrains on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 10:15 PM

My father-in-law passed away and his wife is needing to sell his trains.  She has left me in charge of finding out what they are worth.  That's where I need help.  There are approximately 30 cars that I need help determining a value.  There are none in boxes, but I know some have not been used in 30 years.  Any suggestions on the best way to determine their value?  Thanks for the help.
