I guess that we collectors should be greatful that there are so few of us out there. Otherwise prices would be even higher.
As far as decreasing something "collectable value".......... who cares? It's your toy, do with it what you will.

sir james I, I agree with you that the item gets played with and sometimes I alter some detailing and/or markings to make it more prototypical, even though, I know, I've decreased it's collectable value. Ralph

True there are people that will pay for mint, never opened never used. Me what I buy gets played with thats what it was made for.

It should be needless to say that the buyer did not purchased the lot to open up the package and use the plasticville. It was purchased because the buyer wanted the unopened plasticville blister pack for his collection.
How many of you own one or more pieces of mint, blister packed plasticville?
How many of you have ever even seen one?
How many even knew that such pieces exist?

The price seems high to me, but I don't question how others spend their money.

I guess one could spend three hundred dollars on a couple of newly made Lionel pieces, and have one of something that is widely available, and of which there are thousands, if not tens of thousands.
Or one could buy something like this plasticville lot, and have one of something that is scarce, and of which there are a handfull.

I guess the choice should depend on which would give the buyer more pleasure.

Gee, no bids. What a shocker. That dude's high on crack. I know there's idiots out there that overpay for stuff on eBay, but let's hope not to this extent. But someone will probably buy it.

That same seller has some other items at what appear to be absurd starting prices.

He has also listed a Lionel Auto-Loader and is calling it "prewar", even though it has 1950s-style vehicles on it.  I guess he means "pre-Vietnam war."

If I ever met a train I didn't like, I can't remember when it happened!
