I am going thru my dad's train collection and cataloging everything. I have been using the Greenburg's guide to price things out so I know what is there. I came accross a Mint condition Department 56 Square window Caboose #5256 with the Lionel number 52139. The guide says that it is worth $7975 in mint condition?? Is this a typo? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The dept 56 rolling stock does not bring a premium price, I would be surprised that if sells for $99. I have 3 or 4 of the cars, doubt that I could sell them for the original price.

My 2009 edition says that it should be numbered 6256, not 5256, and that it's worth $62 new.

There are currently 4 different department 56 rolling stock on the bay , 3 are buy it now and 1 is up for bids. The 3 buy it now are priced from $85 to $100, I would guess if you checked each day they will still be there. The one car for bid is the snow hopper which I think is the most desirable car has one bid at $45.
In doing some more checking on the Internet, I have found that it has sold for less that $50 at two train auctions.
Which Greenburg's guide to you have? I can verify that the 2009 pocket edition lists it for $62.00 new.
Paul is right, the 2010 Greenberg Edition says 7975. That has to be a misprint. My 2009 is in my desk at work.
