My 2 cents .... a ripoff is only an item " an indivdual buys " and it's not functional ... legacy is extremely funtional . The only complaint I have is the cost of the expansion kit ... you may as well buy a whole complete set instead of paying the huge amount for the extra controller only . I'm still useing my tmcc because I have no need for the legacy yet . When I do I will buy the legacy system . Don't  just buy one to say you have one if there's no need to .... then no one will feel ripped off .  My 2 cents  You don't even want to know what I think of MTH's actions .... and I won't go there ... Whistling  Legacy even adds some advanced controls to TMCC engines .

bigdogjeff

if i was to go with any it would be mth system lionel is about ripping the average hobbiest off.

Then why did you purchase the TMCC system and not scrap all your Lionel and go MTH?

Seriously... I have a feeling this is because Lionel announced they are dropping the TMCC Cab-1 and Command Base. If you read the announcement and you omprehend why they are doing so, you would realize that it makes ZERO sense for Lionel to continue offering the CAB-1 and Command Base. The LEGACY System is FAR superior to the CAB-1/Base and if you ever have the opportunity to use it you will readilly realize this. DCS vs Legacy... they are very similiar in capabilities, so it is really just a matter of preference...

but you are probably thinking that the DCS system can control TMCC and Legacy engines, but Legacy can not control PS-2 engines, so it is Lionel's decision not to do so. Well back in the 80's when TMCC came out Lionel made it and open architecture and that is how MTH incorporated it into DCS... BUT MTH locked down the DCS system so it could not be incorporated into TMCC/Legacy...

oh, lets also adress the TMCC vs Legacy cost. TMCC was cheeper, yes, but Legacy is in the same price range as DCS... and yes MTH has a cheep remote, but so does Lionel with the K-Line remote.

bigdogjeff, I'm not trying to start a war, but I believe if Lionel was trying to rip off the average hobbyist they would not still be in business after 100+ years. I consider myself a less than average hobbyist and I feel Lionel provides me quality items at a reasonable price. We must not forget that a business's goal is to make money and keep its customers happy. If the business fails at either one of these then the business will not be around for very long. Regards, Joe
